Kamala Harris after the election loss to Donald Trump: “The election results must be accepted”

It was at 10:15 p.m., Swedish time, on Wednesday that an emotional Kamala Harris stepped up in front of the podium at Howard University in Washington DC to cheers and applause from the supporters gathered.

The speech was actually supposed to have been held on the night of Wednesday, but it was postponed after Trump went to victory, TT writes.

“Must accept the election results”

After thanking his family, team and campaign workers for their efforts during the election campaign, and expressing pride in the way the campaign was conducted, Harris stressed that the election results must be accepted.

– I know that people are feeling a spectrum of emotions right now, I understand that, but we have to accept the election results.

– A fundamental principle of American democracy is that when we lose an election, we accept the result.

“Will contribute to a peaceful transition of power”

She also highlighted that she congratulated Donald Trump on the win over the phone and was then met by some boos from the audience.

– I also told him that we will help him and his team with the transition, and that we will help with a peaceful transition of power.

Even President Joe Biden has congratulated Trump and invited him to the White House for a meeting about the impending change of power.

Harris: The fight goes on

During his speech, Harris also emphasized that the Democrats’ fight continues.

– While I am giving up on this election, I am not giving up on the fight that has fueled our campaign, she says.

– This is a time to roll up your sleeves.
