JYVÄSKYLÄ.
Kalle Rovanperä was disappointed in the service park of the Jyväskylä WC rally. No wonder.
The Finn had a strong start to the actual first day of competition and clocked five bottom times before the car went on its roof at the Myhinpää special test.
– I can’t really find any reason for it. Up until the brake, I felt that everything was fine. In the right line and at a good speed to the bend. When there was no line as the first car, something crap was left on the line of the rear wheels. Small cars drove into the inner corner. We went to full slad and couldn’t fix it. We fell into a ditch and took off, Rovanperä clarified and summarized why he was particularly upset.
– After a long time, it’s sad when something happened that you couldn’t really do anything about.
Rovanperä described that the day had passed with easy driving.
– When it didn’t even come to a too hard corner, Rovanperä was upset.
The Jyväskylä World Championship rally was quite a disaster right away on Friday. Described as Rovanperä’s worst competitor in the morning Ott Tänak hit a rock. His engine broke down. Another M-Sport driver Pierre-Louis Loubet crashed his car so that it was left on the side of the road.
Esapekka Lappi in turn shook the tree.
– Of course, it’s sad when you were driving for a good result with your own good driving. Not by any means overdone. It’s sad for the fans as well, when, at least at the moment, there is no Finn fighting for victory.
Rovanperä was still not sure if he will be able to continue the race under the rally 2 rule this weekend.
– You have to disassemble the car quite a lot to see all the curves. It’s still impossible to say, Rovanperä said.
The reigning world champion described that going to the top feels a little on the side.
– That’s how hard it fell on the road. I’m going to shoot now. Let’s make sure everything is okay. Then you can drive if you feel like it.
Rovanperä led the World Championship with a 55-point difference to his teammate to Elfyn Evans, when he arrived at his home race. Now Evans moved to the top of the competition.
– The championship situation is getting more difficult. This was the only thing that was not supposed to come of this race, Rovanperä regretted.
