Kalle Lassila wrote a blunt text about the weak point

The Finnish men were far from the top with ten free. Kalle Lassila does not believe that Finnish skiers will continue to get top positions in free normal distance competitions.

The story in a nutshell

For Finnish skiers, the normal distance races on free skiing have traditionally been difficult. There haven’t been many top places.

In men, Finland’s previous top 3 place in the free normal distance is Iivo Niskanen second place almost five years ago in the Nove Mesto intermediate start race.

Not much was expected from the men’s 10 km race to be held in Lillehammer on Sunday either. The Finns were the best Arsi Ruuskanenwho skied at his best level.

He beat Iivo Niskanen by about four seconds. Ruuskanen was 14th and Niskanen 15th. Both were a minute apart from the top.

Sports expert Kalle Lassila gave the Finnish cross-country community some free skiing at the beginning of the race. He does not believe that the Finns will do better in this style in the future.

– I see no reason for the trend to change. The teaching and coaching of freestyle skiing is tentative. There is no common clear perspective on how free technology is developed.

– When there has been that unity, it has turned out to be a wrong interpretation. Maybe it would need help from someone who knows how to do it. We listen carefully without questioning. There is enough data in history that we don’t have the best information when we are free, Lassila lateri.

The Norwegians are awesome

In Friday’s race, no country’s skiers had a match for the horrors of Norway. Germany’s Friedrich Moch (7:s) and Austria Mika Vermeulen (8s:) were the only non-Norwegian skiers in the top 10.

Norway took Martin Løwstrøm Nyengeti leading a knock-out six-point win. Simen Hegstad Krüger was another Harald Østberg Amundsen third.

In the World Cup, Ruuskanen has been in the top ten at his best. He described feeling limp while skiing.

– I try to keep a steady pace. It was a tough race. It seemed that everyone was having a hard time, even though only Vitone had been skied.

On Sunday, there will be a 30 kilometer combined race.

– The journey is getting longer. If only it required more endurance, Ruuskanen thought.

Niskanen opened his race brilliantly. At the first intermediate point, he was sixth and the best non-Norwegian.

According to Niskanen, the placement was good.

– However, skiing took its toll. It got off to a good start, but I just couldn’t make it through the second round. You would have needed fresh men to have your back.
