Kajsa Bergqvist’s wonderful tears – completely broke down after Daniel Ståhl’s feat in the World Cup: “The biggest thing I’ve ever experienced”

Daniel Ståhl won WC gold in the most dramatic way.
In the stands, Kajsa Bergqvist broke down completely.
– I am grateful, says Ståhl about his confederation captain’s tribute.

Daniel Ståhl did not go into this year’s discus final in the World Cup as the clear favorite, but he immediately showed that it would be a shocker all the way in. Ståhl led the final when Kristjan Ceh threw his last – and second to last – throw of the entire competition, and he hit an impressive 70.02.

Senseless drama

Ceh’s throw was one of the longest in WC history, and it wasn’t exactly easy conditions for Ståhl, who only had one throw to win gold. And talk about delivering when it matters most. Ståhl answered for a new championship record, 71.46 – and won an incredibly long-awaited WC gold. And then followed fantastic pictures of an overjoyed Ståhl, and a perhaps even happier national team management.

On the TV pictures, you could see how the national team captain Kajsa Bergqvist broke down completely, and she was in tears when she hugged Ståhl, and congratulated her on the WC gold.

– It becomes so incredibly emotional, what a fantastic person he is. It couldn’t have been more exciting, says Bergqvist to Expressen.

Bergqvist told TV4 that the discus final was the greatest thing she had experienced, and that is saying something, given her fantastic track record.

Incredible tribute

However, Daniel Ståhl believed that Kajsa Bergqvist took it all too far with that particular statement.

– Well, she takes a little. But it’s nice that she says that. I am grateful for that, says Ståhl.

However, Ståhl was grateful and happy for the reactions in the stands, and for all the tears.

– It’s fun to see when people boo and are happy. It’s awesome. This is the best thing I’ve ever done, so I’m extremely proud actually.

Kajsa Bergqvist believes that Ståhl has a special ability to deliver when it matters most.

– It felt a little uncertain at the beginning, a little tense like that. Then he picks it up, lights it. Daniel has not always made his longest throws in championships. But today he creams the whole shit out, when it’s needed the most.
