In Tunisia, Kaïs Saïed was sworn in on Monday, October 21, before Tunisian parliamentarians, two weeks after being re-elected president in the first round with a score of 90.69% of the votes, according to official figures. The campaign had been marred by irregularities as several candidates were unable to compete in the Carthage race. It is therefore a second term which opens in a country where the opposition seems decimated and where Kaïs Saïed seems, more than ever, alone in charge.

In a special edition from the morning, national television continued, on October 21, reports and comments in praise of Kaïs Saïed. When he arrived near the Bardo Palace, where the Tunisian Parliament sits, he was welcomed by Brahim Bouderbala, President of the Tunisian Assembly. “ Accept my most sincere congratulations for having once again won the trust of the Tunisian people who chose you for a second term, proof of their desire for stability “, he said.
The swearing-in takes place immediately. An important moment for Kaïs Saïed, who often says he is invested with a divine mission for his country. “ I swear in the name of God the Almighty to protect the independence and peace of the country », Promises the head of state.
While the Tunisian opposition is now decimated and only two candidates faced it – including one in prison – the Tunisian president wanted to justify, once again, his taking full powers in 2021. “ Let everyone know what was planned and plotted inside and outside the country : nothing less than the entrance to the Tunisia in a civil war », adds the president.
Setting up a dam in the face of a hypothetical return of the old post-revolutionary political elite to power is the main argument of Kaïs Saïed, during his first mandate as well as his second.
