Kabysh, the apostle of “Rara-Tech” in Haiti

Kabysh the apostle of Rara Tech in Haiti

We are ending our series of shows in Cap-Haitien with Kerven Lebrun, by his stage name Kabysh, a young artist based in the country’s second city. With his atypical voice, Kabysh wants to promote “Rara-Tech”, a mixture of traditional Haitian sounds and electronic music created by Gardy Girault.

He walks the “lakou”, travels through voodoo ceremonies in search of his inspiration. Kabysh makes music to tell his story and that of his people, to narrate his daily life and share hope. Singer and composer, Kabysh is the kind of artist imbued with his art, he is inhabited by his music, he says.

Along with DJ Manito Nation and other artists like Joel Akoustik and Paul Beaubrun, he fuses traditional Haitian sounds with house music. From this mixture of sounds comes “Rara-Tech”, a style of electro-voodoo music pioneered by Gardy Girault.

Kabysh already has several songs playing on streaming platforms, including Boukman Eksperyans covers and collaborations with other artists. For the moment, he is working on his first EP which will be released very soon.
