Canada’s JVM team, with players born in 1998 and 1999, took gold after defeating the Junior Crowns 3-1 in the final in Buffalo 2018.
In June of that year, the team was honored for the gold at a charity gala and golf competition in the Canadian city of London.
A woman, now 24 years old, accuses eight male ice hockey players, some but not all of whom were members of the JVM team, of having sexually exploited her on several occasions in a hotel room in connection with the event, according to TSN.
Tasks: requests 27 million
The case has not led to prosecution or been tried in court. The reason why it is being noticed now is that the woman has reached an agreement with the Canadian Hockey Federation and the Canadian Hockey League CHL to which the players belonged during the summer of 2018.
According to TSN, the woman is claiming the equivalent of just over SEK 27 million in damages.
“The plaintiff is satisfied with the outcome and relieved that this difficult case has been resolved,” the woman’s lawyer Robert Talach said in an email to TSN.
The Canadian Ice Hockey Federation writes on its website that it has been aware of the case since 2018 and conducted an internal investigation.
NHL: “Disgusting”
“The person who made the accusations has chosen not to talk to either the police or Canadian ice hockey independent investigators. The person has also chosen not to identify the players involved. She has the right to do so and we respect her wishes,” the association wrote on its website.
The NHL, North America’s professional men’s ice hockey league, condemns the incident.
“The allegations reflect a behavior that is both reprehensible and disgusting. We will strive to establish the underlying facts and the extent to which this affects players currently playing in the NHL. If necessary, we will decide what action should be taken,” he wrote. NHL in a statement.
