“Just wanted to walk around and talk”

Driver Peter Eriksson the horse’s shoes right in the face during a trot in July.
Now he walks blindfolded and sees nothing, but despite that, he is, as he says himself, in great shape.
– I can hear all the better. It’s nothing I suffer from, says Peter Eriksson to TV4 Nyheterna.

It was at the beginning of July that driver Peter Eriksson from Bollnäs was involved in an accident at Rättviks in Dalarna. Suddenly the horse started galloping and kicking backwards. In the sulky behind sat Peter Eriksson, who got the horseshoes straight in the face.

– I myself remember nothing from the incident. I have driven the horse several times before and never seen any such tendencies, says Peter Eriksson to TV4 Nyheterna.

After the accident, he was taken to Falu hospital, and then he was flown by helicopter to the Academic Hospital in Uppsala.

After the accident, Eriksson was sedated on and off for two weeks. When he fully awoke, the staff told him what had happened, but it was only when the family came to visit that he understood what had happened.

– Then everything landed a little better. It was a very strange feeling, says Peter Eriksson.

Not seen since the accident

Since the accident, Peter Eriksson has not been able to see anything. The blow hit near the eyes, and it is unclear how his vision will be affected by the accident in the future. But he probably won’t go blind.

– You can never rule that out, but it doesn’t sound like that anyway.

Despite the accident – and the loss of sight – he is in good shape. Nothing broken, no pain, and otherwise healthy. During the time in the intensive care unit, among people who were significantly more seriously injured than himself, the staff even got to tell Peter Eriksson.

– The hardest part was that I felt so healthy. I wanted to go around and talk to people. So in the end they told me to keep a little lower profile, says Peter Eriksson and laughs.

Gets a lot of support: “Moving”

After some time he is back on the track, but now as a visitor. Without sight, it is difficult to move among horses and people, and therefore he usually takes someone with him to lead him. And even though he can no longer see the horses, it’s nice to be back.

– I hear all the better, so I sit and listen. It’s nothing I suffer from. And I talk all the less, laughs Peter Eriksson.

Since the accident, Peter Eriksson has received a lot of support from loved ones

– It is touching, I must say.

Back home with partner Malin Lundmark, everything has gone well.

– She has done a fantastic job. I don’t need it, I usually say.
