Jury: Trump responsible for sexual assault

A jury in New York has found Donald Trump responsible for sexually assaulting E Jean Carroll, the author and journalist who has accused the ex-president of rape in a civil lawsuit.

He must also pay her a multi-million sum in damages.

The jury believes that Carroll has not been able to prove that Trump raped her, but that she proved that he committed sexual assault. The jury has also found Trump guilty of defamation, after claiming that her statement was a lie made up to sell books.

The background to the case is allegations that Trump allegedly raped Carroll in a fitting room at a department store in the mid-1990s.

Trump himself refused to be physically present at the trial.
