In the United States, a jury has found the former president of the country Donald Trump’s having committed sexual abuse in 1996.

Instead, the jury finds that Trump was not guilty of rape at that time.

Trump was sued by an American journalist-writer Elizabeth Jean Carroll. According to Carroll’s claim, the rape took place in the dressing room of a luxury department store in Manhattan in 1996. Trump has denied the allegations against him.

In addition, the jury finds that Trump was guilty of defamation of Carroll when he called her a fraud on social media.

Trump must pay Carroll a total of five million dollars. Since it is a civil lawsuit, Trump is not criminally responsible for the matter and has therefore never been threatened with a prison sentence for this lawsuit.

Carroll sued Trump under the Adult Survivors Act, which went into effect last year.

The new law allows adult survivors of sexual abuse to sue their abusers after the statute of limitations has expired.

Trump: The verdict is a disgrace

Trump recently reacted to the jury’s decision by calling the lawsuit a witch hunt on his own Truth Social account.

– I have no idea who this woman is, he wrote, referring to Carroll.

– This sentence is a disgrace.

Trump himself was not there to hear the decision. His campaign staff said shortly after the decision that there will be an appeal.

On the other hand, Carroll, who left the court, seemed satisfied.

– We are very happy, he told reporters.
