– In boys, aspiration has always been evident in action. They are very passionate about the game. They have been interested in the game as a game and have liked to practice a lot. They were pretty much the ideal players for the coach.
This is what TuTo is currently coaching Hermanni Vidman from Juuso Pärss and Mikael Wipes a few years ago. Vidman coached the duo in A and B juniors for a total of three seasons. At the time, the duo often played as chain friends. Just like now in the Finnish Championship.
The impression has been considerable, as Pärssinen and Pyyhti have formed Markus Nurmen with points in the light of the SM league’s most dangerous chain.
Nurmi has already broken TPS’s club history in the playoffs with a score of 4 + 15 = 19. Pyyhti, who played in the sensational spring season, has a score of 8 + 5 = 13 and Pärssinen 4 + 8 = 12.
– Wipe and Pärssinen like to play, move the puck and often play with one touch. What may have surprised me is that Pyyhty has become a scorer, as he was more of a playmaker and a balancing player in his chain when he was younger, Vidman says.
– I didn’t see three or four years ago that he would become a 25-goal league player.
In B-juniors, for example, only nine goals were finalized in 61 matches. A total of 29 hits have been completed this season, including the regular season and playoffs.
– Now we have found such a goal and arrogance to end those situations ourselves. If it used to be that he was still looking at the place of some input, now a clear change has taken place.
– I think the shot has developed a lot in the last year. Maybe when he was younger he didn’t dare use it yet when he wasn’t yet a physically ready player.
According to Vidman, the chain friends are quite similar in person. The duo has loved practicing and most of all playing. They are also positive and cheerful, according to Vidman. The basic values have always been right.
– Juuso Pärssinen is really strong mentally. He had a lot of injuries when he was younger and has had to go through a rather difficult road. When Dad is an old top player, he has seen it next door and has grown into a really tough athlete mentally.
There are also towels from the ball family. His big brother Tuomas played hockey. Kid brother Niklas in turn, represents Bologna in Italian Serie A.
– Mikael has never been in a terribly bad mood, but happy and positive. Between the game and practice is for him to play. He doesn’t take things so seriously and seriously, Vidman describes.
– He has come under the radar, because he has never been a top player in the age group. He has been able to build his own career forward in peace and piece by piece.
According to Vidman, it has been extremely nice to watch Pyyhtiä and Pärssinen and other TPS puppies play in Turku.
– A few years ago there were speeches and big goals were set that the body should be grown on its own. Now there are people from Turku in the line-up and still in big roles, and that certainly warms the mind. We have worked hard to get them there.
Already in the second final in Turku, it became clear that Vidman is not alone with his thoughts. When Pärssinen’s chain got the puck into the attack area, practically the entire 10,500-headed Home crowd started clapping rhythmically.
The mood was soaring at the latest when Pärssinen raised the tie in the final round.
– It’s always great to watch when your own boys make it. We have had Birches and others, and now there is a new generation. Damn cool look, TPS supporter Niko Karjalainen stated.
– It’s great that my own puppies have finally been raised there. If last season was a legion of aliens, now let’s go with our own boys and take a new charm from there, Oskari Antila in turn says.
Antila’s own son also plays in TPS juniors.
– He can see that for a moment, I can be there sometimes. Not everyone comes from North America or Russia, but their own players are also raised. He looks up at them. These foreigners are nothing in his eyes. They are these Persians, Nurmet and others who have followed the same junior trail as him, Antila says.
Vidman reminds that not only the people of Turku, but also TPS’s own breeders are currently living unforgettable moments. The players have been able to enjoy the crowded atmosphere of Turkuhalli as they had dreamed of from an early age.
– These players have been small in the stands in 2010, when TPS won the championship, the hall was full and there was atmosphere. Experiencing it has been one goal for them that is now being fulfilled, Vidman says.
