In the men’s 20 km walking race, Jerry Jokinen won bronze at the under-23 European Championships in Leppävaara, Espoo.
Joki’s new age group Finnish record readings are 1.24.41. Jokin was not even among the top ten in the preliminary rounds.
Spain’s Paul McGrath became the champion with a time of 1:21:03. Silver went to Italy’s Andrea Cosi with a time of 1:23:02.
Lauri Joukas was 13th in the competition with a time of 1:28.58 and Jonathan Ekberg 15th with a time of 1:29.53. Both Finns set their own record in the race.
– I am happy. A difficult training season is behind us. The audience was amazing, there was encouragement at every turn, Joukas commented.
– Had to make sure with the technology, when there were two warnings at the beginning of the trip. But this was a great performance as a team, Ekberg was happy.
