The summer jungle camp continues to be emotional. On day 3, a reality star makes a confession that cuts right through her bones: something terrible happened to her in her childhood. However, this step is being criticized online. Find out why the community is reacting so negatively to the tragic story here.
Thorsten Legat talks about dark times: He never felt safe in his childhood
We usually know him as a tough fighter: ex-footballer Thorsten Legat usually presents himself as an invincible alpha male on TV. On day 3 of I’m a Celebrity: Showdown of the Jungle Legends, the otherwise tough reality star surprises everyone with a tragic confession. Together with Goodbye Germany star Danni Büchner, Legat sits around the campfire and starts talking about his unloving childhood.
Legat lets it be known that his tough facade has a tragic reason: As a child, he was drilled: “I wish I had lived a decent life as a child.” Danni Büchner promptly admits that she felt the same way: “Unfortunately, I didn’t either.”
Legat reports that he suffered violence in his childhood. This memory of his father is disturbing:
Half drunk, glasses at half past seven, had the back of a gorilla, strength of a bull. Took off his jacket and beat us up. What should I do when you are six or seven years old? Tears in the jungle camp: Thorsten Legat shows his feelings
Thorsten Legat’s past is really tough stuff. At the campfire, he tells fellow camper Danni the whole truth and describes details of his experiences with violence. On the jungle phone, he reveals the whole truth and has an emotional breakdown in front of the cameras. His face is streaming with tears, the confession is clearly affecting him. He said “Decades of humiliation” behind you.
Danni Büchner has a similar story to tell. She also admits that she experienced violence as a child. That is why she has such a good connection with Legat:
I think Thorsten and I have a very special connection, as you can see, precisely because we have experienced things that not everyone here has experienced.
The community is not very enthusiastic: The jungle camp confession is not well received everywhere
It undoubtedly took a lot of strength for Thorsten Legat to shed light on this dark chapter of his life. However, fans have shown little appreciation for this, and the confession has not been well received online. Since Legat was known for his unpretentious nature in previous formats, the community’s verdict seems to be particularly harsh. An angry Instagram user accuses the reality star of simply using a strategy to garner sympathy:
He doesn’t seem authentic at all to me, he’s trying desperately to show a softer, more sensitive side of himself. You get the feeling that he’s constantly waiting for opportunities to talk about emotional things.

Many even react with malice. Since the audience does not decide the fate of the campers in the summer jungle camp, Legat should have saved himself the appearance:

Whether personal stories belong on reality TV is a debate for the ages. More visibility may certainly be a valuable tool for raising awareness about sensitive topics. However, it is questionable whether reality shows handle potential triggers with enough sensitivity.
