About 200 meters from the start, two protesters were arrested. One of them was wearing a shirt that read INEOS = Climate Criminals. INEOS is a petrochemical company and sponsor of one of the biggest teams in the Vuelta. According to the police, the suspects were on the track near the start and they were trying to create a blockage there. “For the safety of participants, action has been taken,” said the police.

7:43 pm Traffic jams

The city is closed in many places until late in the evening. This sometimes leads to frustration for people who run into blockages. A large part of Utrecht was difficult to reach from 3 p.m. because through roads were closed in connection with the cycling race. It is difficult for people to get in or out of the city. Closures have led, among other things, to traffic congestion on Kapteynlaan near De Gaard shopping center and Overkapel shopping center in Overvecht.
