A transport plane with eight people on board crashed late on Saturday night near Paleochori Kavala in northern Greece. Eyewitnesses tell how the plane started to burn and hit the ground with an explosion.
The plane, a Ukrainian Antonov plane, was on its way from Serbia to Jordan and had requested an emergency landing near the city due to engine problems, but did not make it all the way.
It is unclear what the plane was loaded with, but according to the fire brigade on site, it is treated as dangerous material.
Russian mobilization of volunteers
Russia has launched a major campaign to recruit volunteers for the war, writes the US-based think tank Institute for the Study of War (ISW) in a report. Recruitment began in June, but has intensified in July.
The volunteer battalions will probably consist of around 400 men each, who are between 18 and 60 years old. Russians who enlist do not need to have any previous military experience and receive only 30 days of training before being sent to battle.
“This is a remarkable resort,” writes ISW.
Thobias Montler was mentioned as a medal jumper before the long jump final. He flopped and finished tenth at 7.81 – 29 centimeters from the qualifying result yesterday.
– He will jump 7.93-94. He should be able to jump that any day of the week, says SVT Sports expert Christian Olsson about the result that would have been enough for three more jumps in the final. But now the long jump final ended after only three rounds.
– I’m extremely disappointed, says Montler.
