In southeastern Moscow, in the cemetery Borisovskoje, the Russian opposition leader Aleksej Navalnyj is buried. Today is a year since he died in a Russian penalty colony in unclear circumstances and around his grave a mountain of flowers rose on Sunday. Several hundred people came to honor him and several people were seen crying.

The regime critic’s widow Julia Navalnaja says in a video on the anniversary that she thought of him every day since he died.
– It’s been a year, but it doesn’t get any easier. Do you know what is the most difficult? Not being able to share anything with him. When something happens to me, my first thought is to tell Aleksej. And the other idea is that there is no one to tell, she says.

Aleksey Navalnyj and Julia Navalnaja got married in 2000 and have two children together. In the video, she calls for continued struggle from her exile in Germany.
– We know why we fight: for a future Russia that is free, peaceful and beautiful. What Russia Aleksey dreamed of is possible, does your utmost to realize his dream, she says.
In the video, Julia Navalnaja talks about all the letters she received from people who write about the missing after Aleksey Navalnyj and how all the hugs she gets to give her strength.
– He always knew how to choose the most correct and simple words to reveal enemies and support us, she says.

The call: Release political prisoners
After her husband’s death, Julia Navalnaja has emerged as a leading figure among Russian opposition and she has previously said she wants to stand in a future presidential election.
On the occasion of the anniversary, Sweden, together with 17 other countries, has stated. The countries express their participation with Navalnyj’s family and urge Russia to release Navalnyj’s imprisoned lawyers and all other political prisoners.
