Judo: Tara Babulfath took a historic Swedish judo bronze after an ippon

– I have no words, I’m very happy and very happy. I used the anger from the semi-final and reloaded, but I don’t want to cry on TV, says an emotional Babulfath wrapped in the Swedish flag to SVT Sport.

Babulfath pressed the opponent to the mat and secured the first ever Swedish Olympic medal in judo. The Swedish 18-year-old, who is still a junior, shouted his joy when the bronze was finished. She cried in her father’s arms after her winning ippon which is a full and decisive point for a match.

Shared WC bronze last spring

Babulfath was on two warnings when she scored her winning ippon. Another warning would have caused Babulfath to lose the match.

– It was a bit scary, but I just had to bite the bullet and take home the medal, says Babulfath.

The Kazakh had problems with her right ankle and grinned evilly in pain several times.

When they participated in the WC in Abu Dhabi last spring, they each got their bronze in the 48-kilogram class.
