Judo calendar at the 2024 Olympic Games dates times medals

The Olympic judo events continue until August 3. Discover the full schedule.

Judo has been one of the flagship sports of the Olympic Games for several editions. Present since the Tokyo Games in 1964, judo has distributed 15 gold medals at each Olympiad: 7 for women, 7 for men and a mixed team event since the Tokyo Games. As the national sport in Japan, it is the Land of the Rising Sun that historically dominates the medal table at the Olympic Games, ahead of France and South Korea.

For the French team, judo should be an opportunity to see an increase in the collection of medals. Best judoka in history, Teddy Riner could become the most medalist in history if he wins a sixth medal. In the other medal chances, Marie-Eve Gahié, Madeleine Malonga and Romane Dicko are also expected. The Federation aims to fight for medals in all categories. In total, judo could bring up to ten medals to France.

16:11 – It’s over for Gahié

Marie-Eve Gahié will not be on the podium of Paris Olympics. The Frenchwoman was surprised in the first round of the repechage this Wednesday afternoon on the tatami of the Arena Champ-de-Mars by the Belgian Gabriella Willems, who was ranked much lower than her (22nd in the world against 7th). The Parisian suffered an armlock after only 40 seconds of combat, which is equivalent to an ippon synonymous with the end of her individual adventure in these 2024 Olympics.

15:50 – Towards a 7th or 8th medal for French judo?

Since Saturday, judo has already brought six medals to the French delegation at these Paris Olympic Games. 15:31 – Ngayap Hambou led 2 wins to 0 by Murao

Maxime-Gaël Ngayap Hambou will have to transcend himself this afternoon if he wants to reach the final of the Olympic Games. The Frenchman has never beaten Sanshiro Murao, his opponent, who is also 23 years old. The Japanese, bronze medalist at the last World Championships in Doha, played in 2023, has defeated the Tricolore twice, each time in 2022, the first time in July at the Budapest Grand Slam, the second in December in Jerusalem. He will have to find a way around it in Paris to create a surprise and ensure he gets on the podium at the Arena Champ-de-Mars.

The two French judo competitors this Wednesday, Marie-Eve Gahié and Maxime-Gaël Ngayap Hambou, are still in the running to win an Olympic medal. The Frenchman will therefore face the world number 3 for a place in the final of the Olympic Games.

13:24 – Ngayap Hambou in the last four!

Maxime-Gaël Ngayap Hambou never ceases to surprise! The Frenchman, who is ranked 38th in the world, qualified for the semi-finals of the Olympic tournament in the under 90 kilos category. After a close fight against Theodoros Tselidis in which the Tricolore was the most enterprising, Ngayap Hambou made the difference at the Golden Score by inflicting a waza-ari on the Greek. 12:46 – Ngayap Hambou continues!

Maxime-Gaël Ngayap Hambou continues his journey in the Olympic tournament in the under 90 kilos. The Frenchman, a big outsider this Wednesday, knocked out Azeri Eljan Hajiyev by inflicting two waza-ari on him in the space of 18 seconds (after two minutes of combat). For his first participation in the Olympic Games, the French judoka will therefore take part in the quarter-finals, the hope of a medal is getting closer.
