The Olympic judo events continue until August 3. Discover the full schedule.
Judo has been one of the flagship sports of the Olympic Games for several editions. Present since the Tokyo Games in 1964, judo has distributed 15 gold medals at each Olympiad: 7 for women, 7 for men and a mixed team event since the Tokyo Games. As the national sport in Japan, it is the Land of the Rising Sun that historically dominates the medal table at the Olympic Games, ahead of France and South Korea.
For the French team, judo should be an opportunity to see an increase in the collection of medals. Best judoka in history, Teddy Riner could become the most medalist in history if he wins a sixth medal. In the other medal chances, Marie-Eve Gahié, Madeleine Malonga and Romane Dicko are also expected. The Federation aims to fight for medals in all categories. In total, judo could bring up to ten medals to France.

11:25 – It’s also over for Diesse
Aurélien Diesse did not defy the predictions in the under 100 kilos table. The Frenchman, impressive in his first fight on Thursday morning, ended up giving in in the round of 16 after a fight of almost ten minutes against Peter Paltchik. While the Israeli had initially received two yellow cards, it was the Frenchman, visibly injured in the fingers, who accumulated three Shido synonymous with defeat. The blow is hard for the native of Bondy, who came close to reaching the quarter-finals. His Olympic tournament therefore ends prematurely.
11:08 – Malonga eliminated from the start
Terrible disappointment for Madeleine Malonga. The Frenchwoman, a medal contender in the under 78 kilos, fell right at the start of the round of 16 of the Olympic tournament. The Frenchwoman, sixth in the world and above all the reigning Olympic vice-champion, suffered the lightning of the Portuguese Patricia Sampaio. An ippon got the better of Malonga’s hopes, who only spent 57 seconds on the tatami…
10:48 – A client for Diesse in the next round
Spectacular winner of his first fight, Aurélien Diesse inherited a serious opponent in the second round of the Olympic tournament in the under 100 kilos. The Frenchman will face the Israeli Peter Paltchik, European champion in Prague in 2020 and bronze medalist at the World Championships in Doha last year. An opponent that the Tricolore beat this year in Baku after losing their first duel in 2023 in Paris. The beautiful is scheduled on the tatami of the Arena Champ-de-Mars.
10:30 – A Portuguese woman for Malonga
Exempted from the first round, Madeleine Malonga now knows who she will be facing on Thursday, when she enters the Olympic tournament. The Frenchwoman will face the Portuguese Patricia Sampaio, who needed only 20 seconds to score two waza-aris against the Kenyan Zeddy Cherotich in the round of 16 of the under 78 kilos table.
10:18 – Diesse expeditious for his introduction
Aurélien Diesse did very well in his first fight of the day in the under 100 kilos category. The Frenchman, whose potential is worth much more than his 50th place in the ranking, dispatched the Tajik Dzhakhongir Madzhidov in 30 seconds thanks to a textbook ippon. Here he is in the round of 16 without having to dig deep into his resources. An ideal entry.
09:48 – Malonga fought to be at the Games
It was only in April that Madeleine Malonga was assured of participating in these Paris Olympics. The silver medalist at the last Tokyo Olympics has long been in competition with Audrey Tcheuméo in a category, the under 78 kilos, which is very dense in France. “Phew, I feel relieved. It’s a stage done, a stage passed. Now, focus on my competition day,” she declared on the official website of the competition. Back in great shape for a little over a year, with no less than six podiums on the world circuit, the native of Soisy-sous-Montmorency has great ambitions when it comes to stepping onto the tatami of the Arena Champ-de-Mars.
09:25 – Diesse has someone to draw inspiration from
Representing the French team in the under 100 kilos category, Aurélien Diesse is not a favourite in the medal race but will try to draw inspiration this Thursday from his comrades Joan-Benjamin Gaba and Maxime-Gaël Ngayap Hambou who have achieved the feat of getting on the Olympic podium in recent days. The Frenchman, who was nevertheless the junior European champion in 2017, begins his Olympic tournament against Tajik Dzhakhongir Madzhidov, a 24-year-old judoka who came 7th in the last World Championships held in Abu Dhabi in May.
08:30 – Today’s program!
On the Arena Champ-de-Mars side today, two French players will try to continue the superb series of medals won by the French judo delegation in these 2024 Olympic Games. From 10:12 a.m., Aurélien Diesse will face Dzhakhongir Madzhidov in -100kg for a place in the round of 16. The French player Madeleine Malonga will start directly in the round of 16 at 10:54 a.m. in -78kg against an opponent who will be known after the first fights of the day.
