A man in his 30s is sentenced to six months in prison for violent rioting and attempted violence against an official during the riots in Rinkeby in Stockholm on Good Friday.
It is the first verdict after the riots during Easter, reports SVT News.
According to Solna District Court, it is clear that the man participated in the riots, but there is no evidence that he was the instigator or leader.
The attempted violence against an official consists of the man throwing a stone at a police officer, who, however, managed to duck.
The prosecutor has previously said that more charges are expected after the events in Rinkeby.
The riots during Easter, in six cities, have been described as the most violent in Sweden since the Gothenburg riots in 2001. Many police officers were injured and ended up in dangerous situations.
The unrest started after Rasmus Paludan, party leader of the Danish right-wing extremist party Tight Course, during his “election tour” in Sweden burns copies of the Koran.
During the Easter weekend, he visited – or planned to visit – Linköping, Norrköping, Örebro, Landskrona, Malmö and the Stockholm suburb of Rinkeby, something that was followed by violent riots with vandalism and violence mainly directed at the police.
