Trump must be present at the sentencing either in person or remotely.
In New York, a judge has rejected the soon-to-be-president Donald Trump’s the request to postpone the sentencing in the so-called swindling money case. Thus, the judgment in the case will be given according to the original schedule on Friday, January 10, i.e. a good week before Trump’s inauguration.
Trump must be present at the sentencing either in person or remotely.
Last spring, Trump was found guilty of falsifying accounting before the 2016 presidential election. With this, Trump had covered up the fact that he had paid so-called prank money to adult entertainment actress Stormy Daniels, i.e. to Stephanie Clifford of their alleged relationship. Trump was found guilty on a total of 34 charges.
Judge Juan Merchan stated in a written decision last Friday that Trump will not receive a prison sentence. He said the most viable option is to apply a rarely used form of sentencing that would allow Trump to avoid both full and conditional prison terms. Thus, Trump would also not be sentenced to a fine.
Trump’s sentence will remain in effect, even if he remains without a separate punishment. This is why Trump is likely to become the first person convicted of serious crimes this month to become president of the United States.
