Operations on congenital heart defects in children can now still be performed at four locations: at the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, the UMC Groningen, the UMC Utrecht and in the Center for Congenital Heart Defects Amsterdam-Leiden (CAHAL), set up by the Leiden University Medical Center. Center (LUMC) and Amsterdam UMC. Kuipers decided last year that only the centers in Rotterdam and Groningen may remain open. That decision received a lot of criticism from Utrecht and Leiden/Amsterdam.
