Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham was handed a two-match suspension by the Spanish Federation on Wednesday, after the red card he received during the draw (2-2) in Valencia last Saturday. The Madrid club, current leader of La Liga with a comfortable lead over Girona (2nd) and FC Barcelona (3rd), appealed this sanction, considering that the referee had made an “error” in excluding the English player, but the appeal was rejected by the disciplinary commission of the instance (RFEF). In Valencia, Bellingham strongly contested with the referee his decision to invalidate his headed goal in added time, which could have given Real a narrow victory. In his report, Jesus Gil Manzano justified the exclusion, explaining that “after the end of the match and still on the field, (the player) ran towards me with an aggressive attitude and shouted at me.” The top scorer in the Spanish championship (16) will therefore miss the next two league matches, Sunday against Celta Vigo and March 16 against Osasuna.
