During Friday, it became clear that the Ukrainian city of Kherson has been liberated by Ukraine – after Russian troops withdrew from the city.
– Today is a historic day. We are in the process of taking back Kherson. Right now, our defense is on the outskirts of the city and we are very close to entering, but special units are already in the city, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Friday.
Meanwhile, photos and videos from social media showed celebrating Ukrainians on the streets and squares of Kherson. The pictures show how Ukrainian soldiers are greeted by tears of joy, hugs and bouquets of flowers. In total, at least 41 communities in the region are said to have been liberated and secured.
