Journalists sentenced to prison in Iran

Negin Bagheri and Elnaz Mohammadi both get just under a month in prison, plus five years suspended, lawyer Amir Raisian told Hammihan newspaper, where Elnaz Mohammadi works. Bagheri works for Haft-e Sobh newspaper.

Raisian further says that during that time they must attend a “professional ethics training” and are prohibited from leaving the country.

Mohammadi’s sister, Elahe Mohammadi, also works for the paper and has been imprisoned since 2022 after guarding the funeral of Mahsa Zhina Amini who died after she was taken by the morality police for not wearing her veil properly. Amini’s death sparked nationwide protests against discrimination and oppression.
