Josefine is Sweden’s best bus driver

Out of over 500 entries, 20 bus drivers made it to the finals and had to compete for the prestigious title of Sweden’s best bus driver in SM 2024.
– I didn’t think so at first. I was about to go home, says Josefine Blomberg, who works as a bus driver in Skåne.

Every year over a billion journeys are made on public transport, and bus drivers play a crucial role in making these journeys both safe and comfortable. The Bus Driver Championship is more than just a competition; it’s a tribute to the skills required to be a happy and safe bus driver.

Some train, some don’t, but I got the chance from my depot to train on several occasions, says Josefine.

She describes the challenges in the job: Keeping on time and driving safely.

– Not many people think that they should let us out and be more attentive.

Woman in a male-dominated industry

A bus driver is not only someone who drives the bus, but also the face of the company. To succeed in the competition, the participants must demonstrate service orientation, professional behavior and the ability to handle the vehicle with precision and safety.

As one of the few women in the bus driving profession, Josefin is a role model for many.

– Getting to drive a large vehicle, especially as a woman, is the most enjoyable part of the job, she says.

Now Sweden’s best bus driver in 2024 has shown that women can be the best in a male-dominated industry and now Josefin Blomberg hopes that her performance will inspire more women to get into bus traffic.
