Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Jonna Sundling has had an incomparably good season.
But now the Swede opens up about the tough times.
– For me it was quite tough mentally, she tells P4 Västerbotten.

It feels like a matter of course these days that Jonna Sundling wins gold in sprints during major championships. Because the Swede has now done it three years in a row.

Sundling’s season

In 2021 she won double sprint gold in the WC, in 2022 it was individual sprint gold in the Winter Olympics and then in 2023 double sprint gold in the WC again. The last ski season has really been fantastic for Sundling, who once again proved that she is the world’s best sprinter.

Ski WC 2023 in Planica was of course the big highlight of the season with double WC gold. But the 28-year-old has also made a big impression at the World Cup as well and touched his personal best.

Jonna’s honest words

Sundling won two individual World Cup races and two World Cup relay victories, and with a total of four VC victories, it is as many as last year’s season. But it could have been much better if illness had not stopped her during the start of the season.

When Jonna Sundling now sums up the ski season in her own, honest words, it is precisely the period of illness that she singles out as the hardest part of the winter.
– The whole season itself is very good despite the start I had and being away in November-December and not being able to go to the World Cup. So it wasn’t a good start, she says in an interview with P4 Västerbotten.
– Then I think I found a nice way forward by giving myself time and being patient after the illness I had. Because it was very long-lasting and I had a cold for a month. It could of course have been worse, but for me it was quite tough mentally to just be at home when the others started.

The season ended in the best possible way with a World Cup victory in the sprint relay in Lahtis, Finland, and then also the SM gold in the sprint relay, both times in a team with the radar partner Emma Ribom. Now a longer break awaits before the next season begins, but the skiing star will not have any problem with keeping his motivation up.
– Right now it doesn’t feel like a problem at all, I had a great finish in Lahtis and then the SM in Kalix with the club Piteå Elit. I’m very busy and really just want to keep going. And this time of year is one of the best times to ski, so in a way it feels a little sad that the season is over, says Jonna in the interview.
