Jonna Sundling’s daring promise before the season – says exactly what all Swedes want to hear: “Would have been fantastic”

Jonna Sundling has been completely dominant in recent seasons.
Now she wants to take the next step – and has her goal set.
– I’m going to give it a try, she says.

For many years, Jonna Sundling was one of the world’s best sprinters. She still is, and in championship after championship she has been at the top of the podium when it comes to the shortest of distances. But Sundling has also taken great strides in other parts of his skiing.

The big change

Sundling is a given when there are relays for Sweden, and she has also shown that she can travel longer distances. In the last two seasons, she has changed her training plan to get better outside of the sprints, and it has paid off.

Now the investment continues for Sundling, and she has no plans to stop trying to develop remotely.

– I will continue as I have done for the past two years. I have seen great progress in distance skiing, but also in sprints. I’ll continue to work on that situation, so we’ll see. But the head in any case wants to ride distances better and develop, she tells SVT.

“Would be great”

Many victories in the sprint races, as well as asserting yourself in distance races, are usually a golden recipe for success in the overall World Cup. That’s a clear goal Sundling has for the season – and it’s something that every Swedish ski lover loves to hear.

– If I can maintain the same level as I have done, can be healthy and compete a lot, then I should have something up there and do in the overall world cup as well. I’ll give it a try, and we’ll see how far it gets me. Then it is important that you are on the track, are healthy and can compete, she says.

But it is also an award that Sundling lacks in his impressive track record. Despite Sundling’s dominance in sprinting, he still hasn’t won the sprint cup. She was pretty much ready to win a few years ago, but then covid-19 canceled the season.

– It would be great fun to do well there. I was close before, but then the pandemic came. It’s something that I have a little revenge for.
