Jonna Sundling’s completely honest words about herself – now admits the big challenge ahead of the season: “Incredibly difficult”

She is already the world’s best sprinter.
Ahead of next season, Jonna Sundling faces a dilemma.
– That puzzle is incredibly difficult to put together, she tells Radiosporten.

In recent seasons, Jonna Sundling has at times been superior when it comes to sprint competitions. Her perhaps main rival, Linn Svahn, has had major injury concerns, and in her absence, Sundling has taken further steps, and dominated in both the WC, the Olympics and the World Cup. And the hopes for her ahead of this winter’s competitions are, naturally, very high.

The big dilemma

But Jonna Sundling has developed more parts in her cross-country skiing in recent seasons. She is a fantastic relay runner, and she has also made great strides in distance running. Not everyone can master both styles, especially since the form of training between shorter and longer races is very different – but Sundling has at least come a long way. But she wants to be even better.

Before the new ski season, which is now only less than two months away, Sundling has thought a lot about how he can assert himself even more, especially in longer competitions.

– I focus very much on my weaknesses and strengths, and have worked based on that. Even though I may have been at a high level, you want to keep getting even better. And that is the difficult part, it is important to find a good balance in it, so that you can get better too, she tells Radiosporten.

“Incredibly difficult”

She does not say what Sundling worked on more precisely, but she believes that it was a difficult dilemma and a real balancing act in training, in order to maximize both as a sprinter and a distance runner.

– In the sprint, there are definitely things to work on, but my biggest weakness is… I want to ride both the sprint and the distance, that puzzle is incredibly difficult to put together. It has been a weakness, because I wanted to ride longer distances and wanted to be at the top there too, then it is the endurance that has been lacking, she says.

However, Jonna Sundling is aware that she can threaten the world’s best distance skiers “on a good day”, and that is something she is proud of.

– If I have had good days and good material, then it has been enough for the podium, it is actually completely sick and cool that I have been able to take those steps in recent years and now I want to continue developing. That’s what I’ve had as my Achilles heel, the longer distances and slightly hillier tracks, she says.
