Jonna Sundling’s brutally honest words after the shock announcement in the Swedish national ski team – the big disappointment: “Very surprised”

The Swedish national skiing team shocked everyone with their decision.
Jonna Sundling was also very disappointed by the news.
– I had not seen this in front of me, it is very sad, she tells SVT.

It was during Friday that the shock message came from the Swedish national skiing team. The most experienced waller was forced to leave immediately then Perry Olsson did not get an extended contract.

Leaving the national team

He has been described as a “super stallion” and was a great success with the world riders Peter Northug and Marit Björgen for many years in the Norwegian national ski team. But in 2020, Sweden managed to persuade Olsson to move home again and for the past four years he has been at the service of the blue-and-yellow national team skaters.

The 68-year-old has been the trio’s personal groomer Jonna Sundling, William Poromaa and Jens Burman during winter. But now Perry is no longer allowed to coach the Swedish national ski team and has to look for a new job in the skiing world.

Sundling disappointed

Swedish astronaut Sundling has received the news with great disappointment.
– When I first learned about it, I was, of course, very surprised. It has worked so well with him, as he is a fantastic herder, and I feel that he and I have been a very good team, says Jonna to SVT.
– I had not seen this in front of me and think it is very sad. But of course I have respect for the fact that sometimes there are changes and then I have full trust in Anders Svanebo (the national ski team’s head coach) and I hope that things will go well in the future anyway. But Perry will definitely be missed.

Jonna Sundling has had absolutely fantastic years behind her with four WC golds and an Olympic gold in sprints in the last three championships. Then Perry Olsson has been a major contributing factor.
– He has meant a lot. He has been there and supported and guided me and got to know me as a person and as a skier. He has a big part in my success on the ski track. I still feel a great deal of gratitude to him and that he has helped me, says the Swede to the TV channel.

The 29-year-old also admits that the national ski team did not ask the skaters about this issue before it became official that the meritorious fencer was leaving the blue-yellow team.
– As an active member, I may not have that insight or the full picture of what needs to be done in the herd team. So no, I didn’t get that. But that is more Anders’ area, she says in the interview.
