Emma Ribom and Jonna Sundling held on to the favorite pressure and took home the women’s sprint relay at the SM in cross-country skiing.
– A nice day here in Boden, says Ribom to SVT after defending the SM gold from last year.
Piteå Elite’s first team, which is also the reigning world champion over the distance, was completely in a class of its own and finished just over 18 seconds ahead of the nearest competitor.
For Jonna Sundling was the second SM gold in as many days after the 29-year-old was also first across the finish line in Wednesday’s mass start over 20 kilometers.
– Super fun. It feels like both were fired up, I think we’ve been looking forward to this day. Then it’s fun to succeed, says Sundling to SVT.

The fact that the silver medalists were found in Falun Borlänge’s team 1 was also no sensation in the sprint relay, which was run in classic style. The national team duo Maja Dahlqvist and Moa Ilar was clear second in the finish.
The fight for the bronze, however, was dramatic. Piteå Elite’s second team, Ebba Andersson and Sofia Henrikssonhad the grip but a mighty final stretch of Lynn Svahn made Östersund, with Jenny Larson on the first leg, clinched the bronze medal after a tight sprint.
