Jonna Sundling sprint winner in the skiing premiere in Gällivare: “World class all the way”

Chilled Gällivare was the starting point for the 2023/2024 ski season. Jonna Sundling showed class in the qualifier and was the fastest of all.

In the quarter-finals, Jonna Sundling and Emma Ribom advanced easily. In the semi-finals, the duo again showed class and advanced to the final. In the second semi-final, Maja Dahlqvist and Johanna Hagström advanced.

Frida Karlsson and the Swiss Nadine Fähndrich advanced in time, so it was set for a thrilling final with several strong skaters.

Once in the final, there was a showdown between Jonna Sundling and Emma Ribom. WC number one versus WC number two in a tight sprint duel. The duo took command from the start. They then never let go of their lead and who would take the first place?

Well, Jonna Sundling, with a difference of only 0.05 seconds.

– It means a lot that you get a good start, very nice to be able to drive the premiere, says Sundling.

SVT’s expert Anders Blomquist pays tribute to the duo.

– It is world class all the way. Great to see them skiing like this. We haven’t been worried about Sundling and she shows that we haven’t had to either, says Anders Blomquist.

Maja Dahlqvist, who had a messy October where she trained too hard and got sick, finished third.

– Very strong of her, says Anders Blomquist.
