Frida Karlsson, Maja Dahlqvist and Linn Svahn have left the national team.
For Jonna Sundling, it is not relevant.
– The national team has shaped me, she says to SVT.
It has been a turbulent spring to say the least for the Swedish national ski team. Sprint star Linn Svahn suddenly went out in the middle of her rehab and announced that she will not be part of the national team’s training group in the future.
First words
Shortly afterwards, the news came that Frida Karlsson and Maja Dahlqvist would make the same decision. This means that the national team in a short time has lost three of its absolute fastest skiers and biggest stars from its daily activities. And since then, the criticism of the national team and what the model looks like has sometimes been great.
Many have had opinions, both for and against, but Jonna Sundling, our most successful sprinter right now, has not commented – until now. She believes that she fully understands the trio’s decision to leave the national team.
– I think you should follow your gut feeling. A sports career is not very long and you simply have to follow your path, she tells SVT.
“Never an option”
For Jonna Sundling, however, there have been no thoughts of exchanging national team training for her own investment.
– No, it has never been an option for me. I thrive very well in the national team’s activities and have always done so. The national team has shaped me into the skier I am today and I am very grateful for that. So it’s not something I’ve even thought about, she says.
However, it is not written in stone that Sundling will always stay in the national team.
– Just because I have not been in those thoughts here and now, it does not have to mean that I have the same attitude next year or in two years.
