Jonna Sundling is one of the world’s best skiers.
But it still rubs me when I see her on the ski tracks.
Because she doesn’t get the appreciation or praise she really deserves.

Another ski weekend there Jonna Sundling is the best. She won both the sprint ahead of her Norwegian rival Kristine Stavå’s Ski City and took third place in the mass start at the World Cup.
Sundling’s greatness
People have stopped being surprised when it comes to the sprint girl from Vindeln and her fantastic skiing. But what I can’t understand at all is how Sundling still doesn’t get the big recognition she really deserves.

So we are talking about one of Sweden’s very best skiers right now and she is on her way to becoming the most successful on the women’s side of all time. But still, it’s usually the poster names Frida Karlsson and Ebba Andersson or even Lynn Svahn which is highlighted most in the Swedish national ski team.
Both in terms of popularity among the Swedes but also who gets the most space in the media. Jonna Sundling is often forgotten there and it is so incredibly strange when you think about it.
Jonna deserves more
She won four WC gold medals already as a junior, and neither Frida, Ebba nor Linn have been able to do that. Then there is the complete dominance of Sundling in the last championships with three straight sprint golds at the 2021 Skiing World Cup, the 2022 Winter Olympics and the 2023 Skiing World Cup, as well as two World Cup golds in the sprint relay.

Nevertheless, she has been completely overlooked at the Sports Gala in recent years and has not won a single award, Jonna has hardly even been nominated. Instead, Ebba Andersson has won the Jerring Prize, Linn Svahn has been named “Female Athlete of the Year” and Frida Karlsson has also received awards at the Sports Gala.
But not a single award to the real sprint queen and that’s a mystery to me. Jonna Sundling deserves so much more, she is an absolutely fantastic skier with an incredibly humble personality.
