Sweden came to the women’s team sprint as large gold favorites.
Jonna Sundling and Maja Dahlqvist really lived up to expectations.
Together, they made sure to take the fourth straight World Cup gold for Sweden in team sprints and the fourth straight World Cup gold for the ladies in Trondheim.
The Swedish Ladies’ Championship Facitis in Team Sprint has been absolutely fantastic in recent years. It became silver in the 2018 Olympics (Pyeongchang) and OS 2022 (Beijing) and gold in the World Cup 2019 (Seefeld), World Cup 2021 (Oberstdorf) and World Cup 2023 (Planica). Both Maja Dahlqvist30, and Jonna Sundling30, had two World Cup golds and one Olympic silver was on the distance … before Wednesday’s World Cup race.
Sweden’s fourth straight World Cup gold
Initially, there was a hot duel between Sweden and Norway. Kristine Stavås Skistad and Lotta Udnes Weng Drove for the home management, but already during Sundling’s second distance she created a gap down to the USA, Switzerland, Norway and other countries. Maja Dahlqvist managed to keep in the lead that Jonna gave her. After Sundling’s third stretch it started to smell gold.

In the end, Maja entered the finish almost three seconds ahead of the United States. Sweden’s fourth straight World Cup gold in team sprint was a fact and it was also Sweden’s fourth straight World Cup gold in Trondheim, all on the women’s side. Switzerland came third and Finland came four. It became a failure for Norway that came first in seventh place.
– It was tough, but we went as we wanted and followed our plan. It was great to see Maja here go over the finish line and chill. I’m so happy to see her there, says Jonna in Viaplay’s broadcast.
– It’s wonderful to take a victory at home. It feels great to have Jonna on my team, she really did it for me today, who now lives in Trondheim.
So Jonna and Maja will celebrate the World Cup gold
It is clear how the Swedes should celebrate that they now have 4-0 in the Norwegians in this championship.
– Our chef Sara Maybe can fix something good, maybe a cake?, says a smiling Jonna.
– Absolutely, now we have four victories for Sweden in the championship. So we hope to continue, says Maja.
