The sports ethical disciplinary board suspended baseball player Joni Rytkönen for five months for sexual harassment.
Joensuu’s Maila does not comment on the effects on the club of the fact that the sports ethical disciplinary board suspended the baseball player Joni Rytkönen.
The disciplinary committee under the Olympic Committee decided on Monday to suspend Rytkönen for five months. According to the disciplinary board, Rytkönen has harassed two minor baseball girls on social media.
The matter is also under investigation by the Eastern Finland police, where the police suspect Rytkö of sexual abuse of the child. Director of investigations Tomi Lautanen estimates that the preliminary investigation will be completed during spring and winter.
Chairman of the board of Joensuu Maila Joni Nousiainen says that the club will familiarize itself with the decisions of the disciplinary board before making decisions regarding the future.
– We need to get to know the board’s decision and its background in more detail, after which conclusions and measures will be taken, Nousiainen states.
Rytkönen has not been involved in Joensuu Maila’s operations since May of last year. He has a contract with the club until autumn 2025. For now, according to Nousiainen, it is still too early to talk about what will happen to the extension of the contract.
According to Nousiainen, the club has had very little contact with Rytkönen during the shelf life.
– We have given peace to the investigation. We have focused on what is our part, i.e. Joensuu Maila’s activities, says Nousiainen.
