Joni Mäki was handsomely second in the traditional sprint World Cup sprint in Falun. The Frenchman won the competition Richard Jouve. In the last meters, the hill squeezed past another Frenchman Lucas Chavanat’n.
The podium place is the first sprint for a Finnish man in seven years. Toni Ketelä was third in January 2015 in Otepää.
The day on the hill was strong. He was the fastest in the qualifiers and was also number one in his own semi-finals. He was only fourth in the semi-finals and made it to the finals by time trial.
Lauri Vuorinen was fifth behind Mäki in the semi-finals and was out of the final. Ville Ahonen and Ristomatti Hakola did not survive the semi-finals to continue.
In the women’s competition Jonna Sundling was completely superior all day. The Swede was the fastest in the qualifiers, more than eight seconds behind the others, and even in the finals, the difference was more than eight seconds behind the second-placed Slovenian. Anamarija Lampiciin. The third was Swedish House Dahlqvist.
Johanna Matintalo and Kerttu Niskanen did not make it to the semi-finals. In the first semi-final, the differences were really big. Sundling was in a class of his own and Lampic was equally clear second. Matintalo and Niskanen were third and fourth in the batch and thus made it to the time comparison. However, the times were not enough to move on.
Katri Lylynperä, Jasmin Kähärä, Krista Pärmäkoski and Jasmi Joensuu remained in the semifinals.
The competition lacked Norway’s top printers, which some time ago became infected with corona.
