Despite being one of Sweden’s most popular stand-up comedians, Jonatan Unge has never been out on tour completely on his own. Previously, he has done eight turns with “Semst”, where he, Branne Pavlovic and Ahmed Berhan divide the stage time between them.
— They have been able to cheer me up if I’ve had a bad day. I’ve always been just one of the gang, more of a supporting actor than a leading man. It is very anxious that everything will now rest on my shoulders.
“Killing Time”
He doesn’t have a strategy for how to deal with loneliness, he says. Nor does he have any idea what the show is supposed to be about.
— It might be fun to try talking to people in the audience during the show, I’ve never done that before. And then maybe I’ll have some kind of slide show, a powerpoint presentation. That’s good, because it will kill time.
Jonatan Unge has previously said that he does not want to do long solo performances, because he does not think he would be able to stand up for that long. The fact that the solo show is planned to be over an hour long means a certain amount of pressure.
— I usually stand up for 20 minutes. It will probably be the first time I stand on a stage for over an hour without a break. So even if it doesn’t go that well, at least it will go a long way.
Booked Circus
With participation in several popular podcasts, wins in Sweden’s two most prestigious quiz programs and acclaimed columns in Aftonbladet, Jonatan Unge should be able to rest in the fact that he is loved by his audience. But it’s nothing he takes for granted.
— People claim that I’m so popular now that I could go on stage and just stand and say nonsense words, which feels more like an insult than a compliment. Where should I gig in Stockholm?
TT: At the Circus.
— My God, is it true? It must be very expensive to rent that venue and difficult to fill all the seats. Really hope I have a loyal audience. I usually say that I perform very well under absolutely perfect circumstances and then it can end up being a perfectly okay show.
