Zlatan Ibrahimovic deserves a new statue, many think.
But Sweden’s national team captain Jon Dahl Tomasson would prefer to see something else.
– That is the important thing for me, he says to Sportbladet.
About a week from now Zlatan Ibrahimovic is celebrated at the Friends arena and get his big thanks for long and faithful service in the national team jersey. When Sweden plays a training match against Serbia, the evening will be dedicated to one of Swedish football’s biggest ever.
New Zlatan statue
Now the voice is being raised for Zlatan to get so much more than just a farewell ceremony. He deserves a new statue after the previous one was vandalized and completely destroyed.
– He has meant everything to Swedish football and indirectly a lot to everyone here (in the national team), even if he has not been an idol to everyone. He has meant so damn much to Swedish football, which means he is important to everyone in the national team, says centre-back Hjalmar Ekdal to Sportbladet and comes up with a new proposal.
– Put up a new statue in Stockholm, perhaps? Which will not be vandalized.

Sweden’s national team captain Jon Dahl Tomasson is of a completely different opinion regarding a new statue for Ibrahimovic. The Dane instead has a different call for “Ibra”.
– I am not an engineer who builds things. I am a soccer coach. That’s what I can do. But I think he deserves the party. It’s a big party that he’s earned. He has played incredibly well for Sweden, in Europe and the world. He was a world-class player, says Tomasson to the evening newspaper.
– Perhaps it is not so important to build a statue, not as important as taking Milan back to where the club belongs. That’s what’s important to me. They have to win the Champions League again, that’s what I want. If you can arrange that for me instead of a statue, I can live with that.
Tomasson’s words
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is today part of Milan’s club management as an advisor and the ownership group RedBird. The Serie A club also means a lot to Tomasson.

AC Milan finished in second place in the league last season and will play in the Champions League in the fall. But the Dane demands more than that from his favorite team from his own playing career.
– I was there for three years and both won and lost a Champions League final. We won the league and the cup and I want Milan to win international titles, as Real Madrid has done in recent years, says the Blue and Gold national team captain.
– It’s not like the good old days when the club played in the Champions League. I would like to see that, because I know how much it hurts when they don’t play in the Champions League.
