There is help available for those who are exposed to human trafficking, exploited in prostitution or on the labor market. In order to gather knowledge and share experiences, a joint day was organized today at Karlstad’s CCC for social services, student health, police and others from the entire Bergslagen police region.

– We know that these are complicated issues. It is difficult to get convictions in cases like this. That’s why cooperation is needed, says Elin Eklöf, regional coordinator against prostitution and human trafficking for Region Bergslagen.

According to Elin Eklöf, it is a big dark story when it comes to these crimes. Therefore, it is difficult to say whether they are increasing or decreasing.

– What we see is that tough times, worries in the world situation, difficult economic situation increase the risk of vulnerability and exploitation, but it is difficult to give any figures.

The conference brings together staff from a range of different professions, social services, police, student health and more, as well as voluntary organisations.

– We are here to learn more about the situation here in Värmland and what type of cases we can see at our place, says Larsa Basman Shana from the social service in Karlstad.

She is supported by her colleague Anneli Ben Or who looks forward to learning more about the subject.

– We have been thinking for a long time about how we can advance in this, so we are very happy that this conference is being organized.
