The French film, which previously went by the name “La favorite”, is Depp’s return as a film actor after a three-year hiatus in connection with the protracted and rewritten defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard.
“Jeanne du Barry” is directed by Maïwenn, who also plays the title role as King Louis XV’s last so-called mâtress – i.e. mistress.
