Johnny Depp and Amber Heard are awaiting the jurys verdict

The trial between Amber Heard and Hollywood star Johnny Depp began on April 11 this year. Johnny Depp has sued his former wife for the equivalent of SEK 500 million for libel after a debate article that Heard wrote in the Washington Post 2018.

In the article, Amber Heard described how she saw herself as a victim of violence in close relationships but never mentioned Johnny Depp by name but wrote about “a public figure who committed violence in close relationships”. The 58-year-old Johnny Depp himself, for his part, said that it was he who was indirectly pointed out, when Heard already earlier when the couple divorced, accused him of having used violence against her.

36-year-old Amber Heard, who is also an actress, chose to sue her ex-husband for a billion kroner for libel after Johnny Depp’s lawyers accused her of lying about the assault and called it all “a scam”.

The two had met in 2011 in connection with the filming of the movie “The rum diary” and married four years later. Two years later, they divorced.

The trial, which aired live on TV, has shown a stormy relationship where both then accused each other of lying, of being jealous and of different types of violence. At the same time, both have denied that they used force – except to defend themselves.

The focus of the trial has been on how Johnny Depp accused Amber Heard of throwing a liquor bottle at him during an outburst of rage. Depp also claims that the bottle, when it broke, cut off his fingertip.

During the trial, the jury not only saw pictures of Johnny Depp’s bloody finger but also listened to recordings of how the couple quarreled.

Amber Heard has her side accused Depp of causing the injury himself, when he was drunk, after he sexually harassed her with another bottle.

The trial has meant that a planned film in the series “Pirates of the Caribbean” has had to be put on ice and that Depp has had to be replaced by another actor in “Fantastic Beasts” which is a side film to the “Harry Potter” series.
