John Wick’s title was quite different, but Keanu Reeves unintentionally changed the fate of the saga

John Wicks title was quite different but Keanu Reeves unintentionally
John Wick is a name like Ritter Sport. It’s quasi-lethal, practical, good. As screenwriter Derek Kolstad revealed in an interview, the action series should actually have a completely different name. Only star Keanu Reeves kept messing up the correct title in interviews. Which turned out to be a stroke of luck. Keanu Reeves couldn’t remember John Wick, but that wasn’t a disadvantage

The first John Wick film was supposed to be called Scorn, John Wick was only the name of the main character. In 2020, Kolstad revealed to Comicbook.com:

The only reason the series is called John Wick is because Keanu Reeves kept calling the first film John Wick in interviews. The marketing department said: “That’s four or five million dollars in free advertising, so his name is now John Wick instead of Scorn.”

In his own words, Kolstad finds it difficult to imagine the title Scorn for the series today. Keanu Reeves unintentionally changed the fate of the franchise with his faux pas. Otherwise, fans might be looking forward to Scorn 5 today.
