Netflix 3 Body Problem Starring John Bradley And Alex Sharp
– What impressed you most in the story?
Sharp: I was very impressed with the whole story when I read it. But I think Will’s story is actually a very simple story in this huge show that David and Alex have created based on these incredibly groundbreaking books. When I first read the script, I thought that in a way, Will, or the microcosm of the story, symbolically represented what all humanity was experiencing in the face of this sudden existential threat. He experiences this on a very intimate individual level, and I found the mentality of the character, the spiritual journey he goes on the emotional journey, and discovering who he is through a person’s response to losing everything, really beautiful and simple, but also terrifying. I was a little terrified, which was exciting.

– Even though your friendship is so down-to-earth, how come you work to create a community between all of you?
This is something that happens sometimes and not to sound cliché but we really love each other and you know the beginning of filming, it was Covid times. So we had some difficulty getting together in the beginning but eventually you inevitably spend a lot of time on set and most of that time you’re not actually acting, you’re just waiting around and we really enjoyed each other. This was such a gift and makes a lot of the work so much easier when it happens. So it was a real pleasure.
– I don’t think the VR device you use in the series is in the very distant future. What was it like wearing that silver virtual reality headset during the shoot? Does the realization of such technology scare you? (John Bradley)
Putting on the helmet was interesting. Because it was like you were completely isolated from everyone else. When you wore it, it went over your ears and over your eyes. You couldn’t see anything. You couldn’t really hear anything, so you had to be on your own with all this life going on around you. The weirdest part was this: After a while, you get used to not seeing anything and suddenly you start focusing on the reflection of your own eyes, which is really weird. Once you see the reflection of your own eyes, you can’t stop looking at them. You look into your soul. I think technology is advancing very quickly. It’s moving faster than ever before. If you look at where we’ve been in the past few years, it’s a little scary to think about where we’ll be in the next 10 years, but I think I’ll welcome it as long as it’s something I always really want to keep, as long as it’s done in a responsible way.

-Are you happy to reunite with the Game of Thrones team?
bradley: Being with Dan again, and for the second time, was more than a dream come true, it was one of the greatest privileges of my career. I remember they texted me and told me that Liam was going to be in the movie and he was going to play Wade. When I read the books and realized that Liam would play a genius character, I knew he would deliver this performance wonderfully. Indeed, we were all astounded by his performance.
Sharp: I only had one scene with Liam and he really impressed me, I love the way he works and I loved it. He really surprises you as a partner with that character. He can really stretch the boundaries and it was one of my most exciting days in the beginning.
-What happens to your characters at the end of the road? So John really surprised me.
bradley: I learned this when I read your script and I was a little disappointed. They do a shock death well, and I think we saw that in Game of Thrones. Many of the big iconic moments on the show (GoT) go back to season one with Shaun Beam. They kill off characters all the time. The audience was caring and welcoming. The three parts were laid out very clearly in front of me to establish a relationship with the audience.
– Alex, were you surprised by the ending of your character?
I was very surprised and very impressed. I think this is a very beautiful and symbolic thing. As a meaningful proof of the man’s love for this woman, even though he has lost everything, the fact that he uses the little he has left to make her happy is a sign of love, and he loves her not in the way she wants, but in the way she needs most.
– Do you think we are insects serving salvation or destruction?
bradley: I believe that people are fundamentally good. I believe that we are born and then walk through the world and lose our innocence, so we somehow know everything and everything behaves a certain way in our life experience. So I think it’s good enough about the human race. We have all shades of gray. I think it’s the best we can be.
Sharp: I’m pretty pro-human when it comes to the hypothetical intergalactic threat. I’m sure there are sweet, caring aliens out there, but I’m part of a team with the humans on Earth.
