Johanna Hagström’s words about former sprint rival Stina Nilsson

When Johanna Hagström emerged against the Sweden elite seven years ago, the largest sprint star in the country was named Stina Nilsson.
Now Hagström tells the Sports Bible what their relationship looks like today.

When Johanna Hagström Every 19 years old, she made a sudden success in the SM sprint. Rookie finally arrived in four in the 2018 final, before the legend Charlotte Kalla. But at the same time a bit after the greats Jonna Sundling and Stina Nilsson.

Almost exactly two years after that SM race in March 2018, Stina Nilsson announced that she would quit as a cross-country skier and instead change sports for biathlon. It surprised many. Sure, she had had a season that was tough with injuries plus Coronan ravaged the world. But biathlon was something completely new to her.

Suddenly Johanna Hagström also got rid of a competitor, perhaps the strongest. They competed with and against each other for a few years, then Stina Nilsson was suddenly gone. Four years later, she changed sports again – this time to long races. Her debut season in Ski Classics has been beyond expectation and she has already won two races (including Vasaloppet) and stood on the podium on several occasions.

Now Johanna Hagström tells us how she sees Stina’s investment in long -distance races. The Sports Bible asks her if she has any control over how it is going for her former sprint competitor.
– Yes, I still follow Ski Classics a little bit because my boyfriend (Vebjörn Moen) is there. But it is clear that you are hanging out a little. It is a little different to go long runs. It’s like you have to put up the workout a little differently. So I think, as she says, she will learn for every race. And it feels like there you have to have some experience in the bank on the race in order to be able to perform well, she says.
