Van Loo has only been working as a sewer cleaner for ten months, but is now used to the routine. “If this beeper goes off, I have to get out of the sewer,” he explains, pointing to a small device on his chest. “Luckily that hasn’t happened yet.” While he checks his suit, his colleagues place a tripod over the pumping station entrance. A tackle system is attached to the tripod to which Johan’s harness is attached. In the event of a flood, it could still be brought up within a few seconds.
