Joel Pohjanpalo’s eight-game goalless streak in Serie A ended.
Joel Pohjanpalo broke his long goalless streak in Serie A football on Saturday when Venezia drew 1-1 against Empoli.
Pohjanpalo succeeded already in the fifth minute of the game. The Finn sent Empoli’s goalkeeper to press Devis Steven Vasquez. The goalkeeper tried to clear the ball further away, but the Finn hit the road and the ball bounced straight into the goal.
Pohjanpalo, who scored his fifth goal of the season, was successful last time on October 30 against Udinese. In the previous match against Napoli, the Finn was left out of the starting line-up for the first time this season.
Italian football was reviewed by the following expert Mehmet Hetemaj it was rumored from the beginning of the week that Pohjanpalo would succeed against Empoli.
– “Jolle” strikes quite often in important matches. When it seems that a weaker period is going on, Pohjanpalo digs itself out. Such an itch is that “Jolle” decides the match, Hetamaj told Urheilu.
Hetemaj’s prediction was half fulfilled, as Pohjanpalo managed to finish, but did not decide the match. Empoli leveled the game after half an hour, when Sebastiano Esposito completed his goal through the post.
Venezia is second-to-last in Serie A, but drew level against Cagliari, who played a game less. The difference to the relegation line is two points.
