Joel Lundqvist has played his very last game.
But he still arouses strong reactions in hockey Sweden.
By making everyone laugh with these clever words about the SM final.
One of the SHL’s biggest icons has said goodbye to hockey. There were a total of 20 seasons over 1,000 games for Frölunda and three WC gold, four SM gold and four CHL titles at home in the prize cabinet for Joel Lundqvist.
Lundqvist’s farewell
This weekend, the 41-year-old had to say goodbye with tears in his eyes to the home supporters in Scandinavium and the rest of hockey Sweden after Frölunda missed the SC final. Now it will instead be Skellefteå AIK and Växjö who settle for the coveted Le Mat trophy as Sweden’s best hockey team.

On Friday, the eternal machine Lundqvist visited “Hockeymorgon” to sum up his career in his own words. Then he also got a question from the presenter Niclas Norlindh which caused a lot of laughter in the studio, see the video below.
Will you watch the SM final?
– Very little, haha, Joel answers in the program.

Joel’s nice answer
Joel Lundqvist then elaborates on his answer and is brutally honest about his feelings before a SC final that he himself missed out on. But then his son enters the action and then comes the next real burst of laughter, see the video below.
– It’s always like that when you’ve been in the playoffs and want to win, then you won’t follow it slavishly afterwards. Then I have a little boy of 11 years who is crazy about hockey and who last asked today: “When do the finals start!?” And I just felt: “Well, I don’t know…”, Joel admits with a laugh.
– You can go past the TV and see what it says. But it is clear that you will keep an eye on who wins and follow it a little behind the scenes.

Lundqvist is then thanked and congratulated for a successful career as one of the SHL’s great giants.
– It has been fantastic. All the people you got to meet, both with fans and with the media. So I also thank you very much for this time that has been, he says in closing words.
