The new deal is estimated to be worth around $193 million, according to multiple sources, which would allow him to stay with the 76ers through the end of the 2028-29 season.

The 30-year-old pivot (2.13 m) was named the best player of the regular season (MVP) of the major League in 2023 and has seven participations in the NBA All-Star Game.

The Yaoundé native won Olympic gold with Team USA last month at the expense of Les Bleus, whose colours he had promised to defend after obtaining express naturalisation. This spectacular about-face did not please Les Bleus fans, who teased him throughout the Americans’ journey, some even daring to make a sarcastic remark when he arrived in Lille: ” Joel, give back your French passport! »

A two-time NBA scoring leader, Embiid averaged a career-high 34.7 points, 11.0 rebounds and 5.6 assists last season.

Chosen third overall in the 2014 Draft, he will begin his ninth season in the NBA next October, with the same ambition of offering the 76ers their first NBA title since 1983.

Philadelphia is my home and it’s time to bring this community an NBA title ” he said, quoted in the Pennsylvania franchise’s statement.
