We saw the latest film by Rebecca Zlotowski, a dramatic comedy in which Jodie Foster embodies one of his first major roles in French.
She swears in English, but wears the whole film in French. This is the feat achieved by Jodie Foster In Privacy. Made by Rebecca Zlotowski, this dramatic comedy follows a psychoanalyst who discovers that one of his patients is dead. She is nevertheless convinced that it is a murder, and not a suicide, and decides to conduct the investigation on her side to establish the truth.
The feature film was presented Hors-Competition at the Cannes Film Festival on May 20, 2025. Rebecca Zlotowski signs an entertaining and rhythmic comedy, which wonders about the images we can project on others, and what it says about our own neuroses (Liliane is a psychoanalyst blocked in his profession, who no longer listens to his patients grandson). The police intrigue or the thematic background are not necessarily the strengths of the film (we remain hungry on this point). But we are seduced by writing dialogues, and especially the performances of actors.

Virginie EfiraMathieu Amalric, Vincent Lacoste, they are all extremely convincing as usual. But it is Jodie Foster who amazes, the American actress finding here her first big role (almost) entirely in French. She carries the film despite the language barrier (Francophile and Francophone, she admits herself at a press conference, “she becomes a different person when she plays in French”), performs a female character full of nuances and complexity (funny but nasty, not very maternal but obsessed with what happened with her patient, rational but capable of diving into the most fantastic delusions).
The second force of Privacy is the duo that Jodie Foster forms with Daniel Auteuil. The latter embodies his ex-husband who becomes a bit of his doctor Watson during the investigation. The actor also admitted at a press conference to have found “his alter ego” with the American actress, and that the game in front of her was “very natural”, to the point that “it was as if we had loved all this time”. This ease in the game becomes a real cinema meeting, the two actors with a very strong alchemy on the screen, and their scenes are among the best in the film. Privacy Fate in the cinema in France on November 26, 2025.
